Lines of Shadow

The “Lines of Shadow” series is articulated by photographs of ordinary buildings. Abstract compositions, formed by lines and surfaces in a single plane, seek to find a minimalist aesthetic in the daily life of the urban environment. The intention is to suggest that art can be perceived anywhere by anyone.
On the other hand, by moving away radically from the representation of its object - the architectural building - and adopting a visual record close to the drawing or engraving, each image provokes doubts and stimulates the questioning of the photographic language itself.
“Lines of Shadow”, in short, is an invitation to look.

José Roberto Bassul was born in Rio and lives in Brasilia. His photography turns to architecture and urban environment as an attempt "to draw thoughts, project desires and built spaces for the imagination". He has received several awards and his works has often been exhibited in festivals, galleries and museums in solo and group shows in Brazil and abroad. He has published two photobooks. His works are held in important private and public collections such as those of National Museum of Republic (Brasilia), Art Museum of Rio, Museum of Modern Art (Rio) and Museum of Photography (Fortaleza).
